Thanks
Thanks for all the feedback, I will stick with the X10 rule as if I can find the gen which cost less than X10 rep then I will go for the gen. And that lead me to another question: Beside sale section on the forum and eBay, where can I find a good used gen watch?
Thanks again. |

The ratio is relevant, but only on low-end gens. Why spend $300 on a rep of a watch that costs $1200 new or used in great condition.......senseless to buy a rep like that....however, in all other cases, reps make economical sense.....that is why I buy them........I, unlike the other billionaires here, could not afford to own the 25 watches that I do, if they were gens.......I love the variety and ability to "collect" that reps offer.......but if I wanted a gen that cost 5X more than the rep, I would go gen......just my .02

I find that the ratio is irrelevant to me' because I would only buy a cheap rep of a cheap gen. Movado is an excellent example. My wife's watch is a rep of a watch costing only a few hundred. Would I pay $200 for a rep of this? Nope but a used quartz rep for $35 was an excellent deal and it's good enough for sure.

I think the price on reps depends a lot on the movement type and the material for crystal case.
e.g. Gen Tag Heuer Grand Carrera Calibre 36 MSRP: about 8000USD Rep with A7750 and double AR sapphire crystal : about 350USD = about 7/160 Rep with Quartz and synthetic sapphire crystal: about 100USD = about 1/80 Rep with 21J (faux chronograph): less than 100USD So the difference between ratio can be relatively huge depending on the quality you are looking for. In my opinion, spending a few more bucks for a better after sale service is more important in case anything happen. |
