I am beginning to think I may have made a mistake in becoming an RG VIP.

So far in the past month since I paid my dues I have had the dubious pleasure of having their entire web site down multiple times, no ability to add or change an avatar, inability to edit my own posts in various parts of the site, etc.

These are bad enough on their own, but from looking at past posts I see that the up/down status and non-editing abilities have gone on for many months, as has the inability to add/change an avatar - which is supposedly one of the 'paid for' perks of becoming a VIP. If this were a rep buying deal the rep might be on the way back to the seller...

I'm sure the admin team will be happy to revoke your VIP previledges and refund you for the amount paid if that's what you wish to do.

If you're not patient... you may just be on the wrong hobby though.

FYI: There is a difference between a "service paid for", and a "privilege granted."

After being 'broken' for at least 4 months this has nothing to do with patience, or even our 'hobby' of reps for that matter, so your statement makes no sense. Additionally as you are the "VIP Concierge" for RG, your role, if anything along the lines of a 'real' concierge, might be to try to smooth things over with the customers, to make them happy, not to take a mildly insulting and condescending tone with them.

I understand and accept the fact that it takes 2 weeks to a month for a rep to get here from China. I do not understand or accept that what is basically a minor script error in vBulletin is taking at least 4 months to fix (if it is even being worked on at all) a 'broken' basic standard web forum feature that people have paid to be able to use.

Frankly it has to do with what services are advertised vs. what is actually delivered, and keeping the customer happy. To you, who has an avatar which works fine, it may sound like a small/minor thing, but when avatars, and not just avatars, but larger than normal avatars, are advertised as one of the features of the package for sale, but then turn out to not have been working since at least February, then the product sold is not as advertised. Since many many people have been posting about this not working over the past 4 months (at least) then it would seem to be an important and popular talked-about feature and problem.

I like RG. I like the people at RG. But I do not like the technical 'glitches' that happen frequently enough that this section on this web site had to be created, and I try to work around them and ignore them as much as possible. But a basic thing like a web forum avatar? C'Mon!

got in with Firefox at last - I just ticked the 'remember me' box and it worked, though the database error white screens are still showing in places.

We moved to a new hosting company and it has caused some log-in issues.

One of the easiest fixes is to click the "Remember me" box. That solves 95% of the problems. The rest of them were caused by the DB mash-up where the whole site wound up in the Rolex section and some people wound up on "Awaiting Admin Approval" status.

If you still have issues today let me know and I'll get you sorted. AFAIK I'm the only RG Admin on here so kick me a PM. Moderators don't have access to clear AAA status.

Awards Showcase

I have to say a few things and I am sure the same holds true for all fora.

VIP memberships are actually donations from generous members who want to put their foot forward and contribute to the operating costs of the forum. There are some perks and advantages to being a VIP and it's more along the lines of donating at church. You can donate but you cannot bring a in a six pack of beer or swear at the priest during the homily.

VB software, which is what we run on here too, can be very quirky. The work done to maintain the software is done by members who donate their time and energy for praise only. Upgrades are not straight forward and if you mess up good enough, you can really have a tough job down the road to fix it.

My advice is to be patient. It's not an easy job to do and we have had our issues in the past and I am sure that down the road Murphy will show up on our doorstep to give us another headache. So this can happen to anyone.

Regards,

Rob
